Rare only edition of this very early Italian work dealing with Martin Luther and the reformation. This uncommon illustrated Torino-imprint contains a discussion of the powers of the Pope which was one of the most disputed questions of the time. Other parts deal with baptizm, sins, the purgatorium etc. Two of the 7 texts are really by Jean Gerson. - Thomas Illyricus (Tommaso da Osimo, 1484-1528), born in Vrana (near Zadar in Dalmatia), emigrated with his parents to Osimo where he was admitted by the Observant friars. He travelled extensively through Italy, France and Spain, probably also to the Holy Land, always preaching on the way. In 1527 pope Clement VII made him general inquisitor for the campaign against the Lutherans and the Waldensians in the Savoy Duchy. - Some browning, first leaves with staining, else mostly clean.
